Christie is an Assistant Professor in UW Civil and Environmental Engineering. She received her BS in Environmental Sciences from Boston College and her PhD in Ocean Sciences from UC Santa Cruz. Christie was a Postdoctoral Scholar in Applied Ocean Physics and Engineering at WHOI and a Mendenhall Postdoctoral Fellow at the US Geological Survey. Before joining UW, she was a Senior Research Scientist at Sofar Ocean. Christie loves being outside, whether on the water, in the mountains, or in the garden.

Malcolm is a PhD student in CEE, co-advised by Jim Thomson. He received a BS in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University and worked as a roboticist at Boston Dynamics and Saildrone. He developed a passion for environmental issues teaching on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, which motivated his return to academia to apply robotic and computational methods to questions about ocean physics and climate. Malcolm’s current research leverages autonomous platforms, computer vision and numerical models to study wave dynamics and their impact on coastal environments. In his free time, he enjoys sailing with the Washington Yacht Club, skiing throughout beautiful Washington, and catching a local concert.
